Throw and Sculpt

This 8-week pottery wheel, sculpture combo class is perfect for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students. In the first few weeks you will learn how to throw basic forms such as cylinders and bowls along with advanced closed forms on the pottery wheel. Students will then unleash their creativity by creating sculptures using parts of their thrown pieces to construct a sculpture of their choice. You will learn simple yet effective techniques to shape your clay into different forms and also how to add details to your work using tools and other materials such as colored slip and underglazes. Students can choose what works they would like to use for their final sculpture. Meaning that not all of the thrown works need to be used for the sculpture. (If you throw an awesome vase or bowl, keep it and use your blemished works for the sculpture:) Your work can be purely sculptural or functional or both!  The instructor will help you build, refine and enhance your work with one on one critiques. This class is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to throw, sculpt, and hand-build.
